The
Bombay Textile Research Association (BTRA), established in the
post-independence era, has been providing extensive and diverse services to
the textile industry for the last five decades, through R
& D, process and product development, testing, training and consultancy
services. Although R & D features prominently in the
institute’s activities, the testing and consultancy services offered to
the industry are equally vital activities through which day to day
technological needs of the industry are met and which are highly appreciated
by the clients.

BTRA
has the necessary infrastructure
[sophisticated instrumentation, pilot plants and well equipped laboratories]
and expertise to carry out variety of tests on fibres, yarns, fabrics
(including technical textiles) to RMG and allied materials and on
composites. Besides, it also carries out testing of auxiliaries, chemicals
and dyes. Eco-testing as per eco-standards for banned chemicals are
undertaken. Also, quality assessment of spinning and weaving accessories is
done here. All tests are performed as per national and international
standards. Testing of textiles at BTRA has the additional advantage of a
strong back up of specialists for consultancy.

The
National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL)
has given accreditation to BTRA Testing Laboratories as per ISO/IEC guide 25
& EN – 45001 and ISO/IEC 17025 standards. Testing
at BTRA is performed as per various National and International Standards
viz., BIS, ASTM, BS, ISO, AATCC, EURO, EDANA and INDA. It has
specially trained staff to handle sensitive tests and their skills are
upgraded continuously.
