Dyestuffs and chemicals/ auxiliaries manufacturers and suppliers interested to improve their profitability in global market.
Manufacturers of chemical processing machinery for fibre, top, yarn, fabric etc. interested for optimising the machines features for customers benefits.
Right first time production of internationally acceptable quality fabric for international retailer/market.
Fibre manufacturers interested to give optimum productivity at compatible cost with quality consistency.
Manufacturers of Technical Textiles (Coated, Laminated, Medical, Industrial, etc.).
Manufacturers of non-woven fabrics.
Fabric Defect Analysis
Calibration services to industry
Effective Speciality Chemical – gives combined effect of swelling agent, plasticiser and humectant.
A Three in One `Assistant’ – for use in the discharge printing of polyester fabric.

DETAILS OF TECHNICAL SERVICES PROVIDED BY BTRA

Section : Non-Wovens

Coverage of Studies Undertaken

Development of different types of non-woven products such as industrial filters, geo-textiles, canal liners, waddies, blankets/carpets, etc. for specific applications. BTRA develops different non-woven products at its modern pilot plant on request. Some of the products developed by BTRA are as follows:
  • Needle punched non-woven using 100 % polyester fibre for the specific application of collecting the metals from seawater for Bhaba Atomic Research Centre, Trombay.
  • Nursery bags from jute needle punched non-woven for PSG Technical Institute, Coimbatore.
  • Banana/cotton blended needle punched non-woven fabric for the in-house project.
  • Non-woven fabrics from Oxipan fibres (equivalent to carbon fibres) from IPCL, Baroda.
  • Non-woven blankets from polypropylene waste fibres.
  • Polyester needle punched non-woven printed blanket.
Testing of non-woven products are undertaken – such as non-woven shoe lining, single rip test for non-woven, bursting and tensile strength of non-woven, non-woven geo-textile testing, CR-after washing of non-woven high loft padding and static charge measurement on non-wovens.
Undertaking trials in BTRA pilot plant for non-wovens.

Section : Weaving

Coverage of Studies Undertaken

Process study and standardisation of process parameters for quality optimisation in weaving preparatory and loomshed.
Performance evaluation of different machines in weaving preparatory and loomshed to improve productivity.
Thorough maintenance audit of weaving machinery to improve operating performance and service life of machinery /spares /accessories
Yarn waste control
Product evaluation and cost optimisation
Sample weaving and product development in pilot plant
Services to decentralised powerloom sector
  • Technical guidance to improve quality, productivity and product diversification
  • Providing services such as loom tuning, overhauling and maintenance

Section : Fabric Quality Inspection

Coverage of Studies Undertaken

BTRA initiated this activity for the benefits of fabric exporters to export quality cloth. Fabric quality comprises fabric defects as well as fabric properties. BTRA undertakes inspection of finished fabrics that are ready for delivery at the site level as well as test the fabrics for their physical and chemical properties for compliance with the buyers’ requirements. Moreover, it offers essential backup services such as diagnosis / rectification of fabric faults and testing facilities. In short, the following activities are covered.
Fabric Inspection and Certification backed by total technical support for diagnosis and correction of faults as well as relevant testing
Product Specification and Properties Certification
Techno-Co-ordination in Raw material Quality, Spinning, Weaving and Processing
Right Quality Fabric Sourcing / Quality Assurance

Section : Chemical Processing

Coverage of Studies Undertaken

Process optimisation by way of quality / process control
Measures to upgrade the quality of the fabric
Evaluation of critical factors to optimise production cost
Measures for reducing fabric damage and reduction in value loss
Water conservation by way of process optimisation and other suitable preventive/corrective measures after detailed shop-floor studies
Thorough maintenance audit of wet processing machinery to improve operating performance and service life of machinery / spares /accessories
Undertaking trials in pilot plant

Environment Management

  • Water audits for finding the water saving, reduction in consumption, maximize water recycling and reuse opportunities for cost and environment saving
  • Effluent treatment plant (ETP ) adequacy audits supported by know how techniques to improve the ETP performance
  • Providing certificate training course in ETP and water recycling – ZLD technology
  • Chemical management system audits supported by know how techniques to improve the chemical management system ( CMS) related activities
  • Implementation of Good manufacturing practices ( GMP)
  • Eco management audits with support of implementation of best available techniques for textile chemical processing

Section : Operations Studies

Coverage of Studies Undertaken

Establishment of workload and work assignment of labour for various categories in a textile unit as well as optimisation of labour complement and workload to optimise labour costs
Thorough streamlining of reporting systems and procedures to optimise staff costs
Optimisation of machine production and efficiency
Scrutiny of viability proposals, restructuring proposals and revival proposals for technical aspects
Certification of modernisation / renovation done by textile units
Valuation of fixed assets in textile units
Folding studies to reduce fabric value loss such as cutlooking practices, training of folding workers, etc.
Conducting periodic surveys on
  • Labour and machine productivity in Weaving and Chemical Processing
  • Stores Consumption in Weaving
  • Costs in Weaving
Energy conservation audits : This audit is conducted with respect to electrical and thermal energy to find the opportunities of cost saving in fuel , steam generation, distribution and consumption and saving of electrical energy in the textile plant. Also, to look for maximum recycling and reuse of the energy. Estimation of any expenses for energy saving with pay back period is done.
Boiler Monitoring : To check thermal efficiency of the boiler or thermic fluid heater by indirect method. Based on the results obtained, suggestions are given for improvements to the optimum level of efficiency.
Steam Trap Operation Testing : Working of steam traps are assessed by non-contact type instruments. This help to reduce line steam losses and improve machine productivity.
