About the BTRA developed mask
Introduction:
Reusable cotton face masks are preferred over disposable non-woven mask due to its comfort. However, the fabric used for mask is normally open weave with large pores size. The porous nature of textiles means that viruses and bacteria can be trapped within the fabric structure, which possibly lowers the risk of the viruses being transferred. Therefore, we aimed to develop the protective face by reducing the porous size using nano fibre membrane technology.
- No throughout cut for improved protection
- High bacterial filtration efficiency (98%)
- Low pressure drop high breathability
- Adjustable ear loop for more comfort
- Anti- fogging adjustable nose clip
- Compliance as per IS 16289 class 2 mask requirements

Electro spinning of nano fibres
The needleless electrospinning machine from ELMARCO (NS IS500 U) with wire electrode was used for the nanofiber spinning was used. Electrospinning parameters such as concentration of polymer, positive electrode voltage, negative electrode voltage, the distance between the electrode and relative humidity were standardized. Nanofiber layer spun at optimised parameters and nano membrane was obtained for 98% bacterial filtration efficiency. This Nano- membrane was used middle layer for the bacterial filtration purpose.
